Despite The Economic Hardship, House of Reps Are Still Going Ahead with Plan to Purchase 360 Cars

Speaker House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara

It is going to be a showdown with the masses as the House of Representatives has gone ahead with its plan to purchase 360 luxury cars while Nigerians suffer.

As if the suffering of the masses is not something to consider, the House of Representatives will go ahead with its plan to spend huge sums of money purchasing 360 cars for its members.

This is coming after the Senate in spite of public outcry dared the masses in April by spending millions of taxpayers' money to buy cars.

ThisDay reports that the lower legislative chamber is expected to purchase 360 units of Peugeot 508 to be used for committee oversight duties by its members.

The report further states that the Chairman of the Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Hon. Abdulrazak Namdas, who briefed newsmen yesterday, however, declined to reveal what was appropriated in the National Assembly’s budget for the vehicles.

It has been revealed that the cars would cost between N8 million and N10 million. This is coming at a time the Muhammadu Buhari-led government has consistently complained of lack of funds and the state governors facing difficulties to pay their workers.

A lawmaker, who did not want his identity disclosed has said that they deserve the cars as he cited examples to support his claim.

“Every minister has three official cars. Legislators at my state House of Assembly have Toyota Prado SUVs as their official cars. So if anyone says we do not deserve official cars, the policy should be across board,” he said.

How Nigerians will react to this latest development is yet to be seen.
