BREAKING NEWS: PDP Cancels Convention as Security Agents Use Armoured Carrier to Smash Gov. Wike's Convoy (See Photo)

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has cancelled its national convention in Port Harcourt after a siege on the venue of the event by the police.

Speaking on Wednesday at the PDP's secretariat in Port Harcourt, Rivers Statel, the party's convention planning committee chairman, Governor Nyesom Wike, announced that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has officially rescheduled its national convention, and has extended the tenure of the Ahmed Makarfi-led caretaker committee by one year.

The disclosure of the extension also means the party will hold its next convention after one year as it will resolve lingering lawsuits within this period following the inability of the party to hold its national convention in the Rivers State capital after a Federal High Court on Abuja stopped the convention.

We had earlier reported that the police and soldiers sealed the Sharks Stadium, the venue of the planned national convention.

The National Executive Committee, NEC, later met at the Government House and decided to postpone the convention, which would have seen the election of new set of leaders for the party.
